We recommend that if you are venturing into the forest, you take a map and a mobile phone. It is not unknown for people to get lost. You can download a map here, or hard-backed copies are on sale at the Visitor Centre for £2.00 (FREE to new and renewing members of the Friends). A free map of the Pinetum, with the suggested route of the season, is also available from the Visitor Centre.
The Forestry Commission have a series of orienteering maps. These are available from the Information Office at £2.00 each.
The four levels are:
White - Young Children
Yellow - Beginners
Orange - Intermediate
Light Green - Advanced (experienced only)
Geocaching is the outdoor activity of finding containers, left by others, using GPS. There is a geocaching course created by Alfie55 available at www.geocaching.com. The map is available here.
